My blog post is featured in a book!

Art Creativity

I'm so happy to be featured in the (printed!!) book Mia Lutko, which means My Struggle in Esperanto, and is a collection of writings and artwork from creatives around the topic of not making it into art school.

It’s funny because I was approached by the author Om Lekha after he saw my old blog on how it sucked to not get into art school (but how it also taught me a few things), and asked to feature it in the book. And here we are now, featured among some really amazing creatives. That in itself goes to show how important it is to never stop expressing yourself and creating.

And the book is so interesting. It gives a glimpse into other creatives’ journeys and experiences (ups and downs). I think the common themes are how as creatives we take “rejection” so personally, how it can make us bitter and self-doubtful. And it also brings up many deeper questions: what is art, what classifies as good art, what is a good application, and what’s the path for artists if they don’t go to uni, or “fit the criteria”.

It goes to show how the art / creative world is a crazy place, it’s def not straight forward. And how (especially when we’re young) we tend to try seek direction through university, and when that doesn’t work out, we feel lost. But it’s not the only path (duh it’s not the end of the world lol). I just wish we knew that more. Thanks to Om Lekha for compiling these stories!
