Going Live April 12th - The Lockdown Collection: Tropical Dreams

On the 12th of April 2021, to celebrate the end of lockdown in the UK, Mattie will be releasing The Lockdown Collection: Tropical Dreams on to her website. It will not be a normal exhibition, let's just say it comes with a few little surprises.

The collection ties together Mattie's experience from over the past 3/4 months, and consists of her artwork created during her art residency at Pop Up Ancoats. It represents the strange moment in time we all are living, with dreams of more beautiful things and freedom. The tone? A playful but somewhat tropical melancholy. The paintings are mostly abstract pieces, filled with energy and emotion.

In this new collection Mattie plays with shapes and colours inspired from nature, think tropical plants, flowers, and intertwining these with iconic Manchester symbols, like, of course, the worker bee.

But, this is not just a collection, it is a project. A project which I couldn't not have done by myself. It therefore comes to exemplify in itself how Manchester is so community driven, with people from different backgrounds and industries coming together to make something special. The community coming together, to give back to the community, what a beautiful concept!
